An Athena Melon is a type of muskmelon that has a longer ripening period than most varieties so the melon remains firm and sweet without becoming soft.
The Athena, with its netted skin and orange interior fruit, closely resembles a cantaloupe in appearance. However, this variety has a much higher sugar content and is larger in size, averaging 5 to 7 pounds per melon.
Serve cubed or balled with leafy green or fruit salads; this melon also makes a tasty smoothie or it can be enjoyed halved à la mode with a spoon as a delicious dessert!
