Human Rights

Position & Commitment
At Melissa's, we are committed to upholding the highest standards of human rights through dedicated resources and proactive implementation. . Our framework is built upon treating workers with respect, promoting a safe & healthy work environment, and working with a safe, sustainable, and inclusive supply chain.

A corporate management system is in place to ensure workers' rights are not compromised and that corporate policies are consistent with the established rules of conduct.

Our extensive HR guidelines are applicable to every member of our team, from those in the warehouse and packing lines to our nationwide sales representatives. We encourage open communication through internal feedback mechanisms and an open-door approach, ensuring that our team can discuss issues and share insights, which play a pivotal role in shaping our strategy and execution. Non-retaliation and Complaint Procedure policies are outlined in the Employee Handbook to ensure employees can report issues without fear of reprisal.

Supply Chain
Melissa's uses our Supplier Agreement in the onboarding process for new suppliers to confirm compliance and measure impact on stakeholders. Melissa's and its suppliers, as documented and required in the Supplier Agreement, comply with all geographical local, state, and country labor laws and regulations.

In compliance with the California Transparency in Supply Chains Act (SB 657), Melissa's evaluates supply chain risks related to human trafficking and forced labor, reserves the right to conduct announced and unannounced supplier audits, requires suppliers to certify compliance with all applicable labor laws, and maintains internal accountability policies to address violations. Additionally, we provide training to employees and management responsible for supply chain oversight to help identify and mitigate risks associated with unethical labor practices.

We also hold the conviction that procuring products from a diverse range of suppliers, including minority- and women-owned businesses, not only bolsters the economic health of the communities we cater to but also resonates with our diverse customer base.
