Peacharine
Quantity/Pack: About 3 pounds
Seasonality: May
Origin: New Zealand
The Peacharine has slightly darker skin tones than a typical peach with very little fuzz and a firm, pale yellow interior fruit.
This fruit, propagated by J.W. Philippi of California, is a 50:50 mix of the two most popular stone fruits of the summer season: peaches and nectarines, rolling the best of both fruits into one!
The Peacharine has very little fuzz and slightly darker skin tones than a typical peach with a firm, pale yellow interior flesh.
The flavor is a distinctive and delicious blend of the two fruits, though slightly sweeter than either parent, making this a versatile fruit for any culinary creation, or, simply out of hand!
Choose slightly firm fruit with no bruises or soft spots. The fruit shoulders will have slight give and yield slight fragrance. Peachrines may be ripened in a paper bag at room temperature, about 3-4 days. Ripe fruit may also be stored freely in the refrigerator for up to four days. Fruit may be washed, peeled and pitted, then frozen in a single layer on wax paper or parchment lined sheet pan. Transfer to freezable bags and use within four months. Refrigeration and freezing will diminish fruit flavor.
