Melissa's Moringa (Drumsticks) are the slender, edible pods from the moringa tree, also known as the "miracle tree" for its nutrient profile. Nicknamed for their resemblance to drumsticks, these versatile pods are a good source of essential vitamins and minerals like iron, vitamin C, copper and iodine.
A staple ingredient in South Asian cuisine, young, tender moringa pods are often incorporated into vegetable curries, sambar (lentil stew), and dal (curried lentils). Moringa boasts a crisp texture similar to green beans, with a slightly sweet and subtly bitter flavor that mellows with cooking.
For the best flavor and texture, choose young, tender pods, wash them under cool water and remove any fibrous strings.
Moringa pods store well in the refrigerator for up to a week or can be blanched and frozen for longer storage.
