Melissa’s Limequats are a cross between a kumquat and lime. This mix makes for a bittersweet flavor. The rind is fragrant and fairly thin, covering an acidic, fleshy interior. The Limequat is an entirely edible citrus fruit. Although Melissa’s Limequats can be served fresh and mixed in salads, it is more commonly cooked and used in syrups and preserves.
When selecting Melissa’s Limequats, look for firm, fresh-scented fruit free of blemishes. Refrigerate whole in a plastic bag for up to one month. Freezing is not recommended.
The entire fruit, skin and flesh, may be eaten. Very ripe Limequats make a great garnish. However, limequats are usually found candied, pickled whole, or in marmalades and preserves.
