Directions
Prepare the Strawberries
Make sure the strawberries are completely dry. Even a small amount of water can cause the chocolate to seize. Lay them out on a kitchen towel after washing and allow them to air dry.
Melt the Dark Chocolate
Place the dark chocolate and 1/2 tablespoon of coconut oil in a heatproof bowl.
Set the bowl over a pot of simmering water (double boiler method) or microwave in 20-30 second intervals, stirring after each interval, until fully melted and smooth.
Dip the Strawberries
Hold each strawberry by the stem and dip it into the melted chocolate, swirling to coat evenly. Gently tap off excess chocolate on the side of the bowl.
Place the chocolate-dipped strawberry on a parchment-lined baking sheet to set. Repeat with remaining strawberries.
Optional - Add Toppings
If using toppings like crushed nuts or sprinkles, sprinkle them onto the chocolate while it’s still wet.
Optional - Melt the White Chocolate
Place the white chocolate and the remaining 1/2 tablespoon of coconut oil in another heatproof bowl and melt as you did the dark chocolate.
Drizzle White Chocolate
Use a small piping bag or a plastic zipper bag with a tiny corner cut off to drizzle melted white chocolate over the set dark chocolate strawberries. This step can create elegant stripes or designs.
Let Them Set
Allow the strawberries to set completely at room temperature for about 30 minutes. If needed, place them in the fridge for 10 minutes to speed up the process, but avoid leaving them too long, as the chocolate might sweat when brought back to room temperature.
Serve and Enjoy
Arrange the strawberries on a platter and serve. These are best enjoyed the same day for maximum freshness.
Recipe Note
Tips for Success:
- Use high-quality chocolate for the best flavor and texture.
- Make sure the strawberries are cold but not frozen for dipping; room temperature works best.
- To create tuxedo strawberries, dip in white chocolate first, let set, then dip each side at an angle in dark chocolate, adding “buttons” and a “bow tie” with additional dark chocolate.
