This exotic tropical fruit, also marketed as Sapote, is about the size of a large kiwi with the same texture and skin color, but without the fuzz. The interior fruit is a light tan color when ripe and extremely sweet.
Sapodilla fruit has been compared to the taste of brown sugar or caramel. It is a popular hand fruit around the world that is believed to have originated in southern Mexico and Guatemala.
Best enjoyed simply scooped out with a spoon, avoiding their inedible black seeds. Fresh Sapodilla sections are also a great addition to fruit salads. Throughout Asia, Sapodilla fruit is a popular smoothie, ice cream and jam ingredient.
