For Chefs & Produce Managers Food Service: 323-584-4940 Produce Managers: 800-468-7111
Seasonality: Year Round
Origin: USA
The Red Anjou was discovered by chance in a green D’Anjou orchard in Oregon and has become one of the most popular pears on the market. The fruit has a mild, pleasantly sweet flavor with a creamy texture and is very juicy when ripe. Red D’Anjou’s distinctive dark maroon coloring also makes them a favorite ingredient when a visual accent is desired, such as sliced in a tossed green salad or paired with fine cheese.
Excellent for baking as it holds shape well when cooked. Product of the U.S.A.
Since this variety does not change color as it ripens, the best indication of ripeness is to apply gentle thumb pressure near the stem. If it yields slightly, then the pear is ripe. Keep refrigerated.
