Grown wild along the edges of damp, pond-like environments, Ong Choy is used in salads and can be cooked as a vegetable.
A welcome addition to the fresh variety of Asian items available from Melissa’s, Ong Choy is a green-leafed vegetable belonging to the sweet potato family.
Ong Choy shares a strong resemblance to regular spinach in both appearance and flavor. Although there are many varieties found throughout Asia, two main varieties are more commonly used: a pale green vegetable with triangular-shaped leaves and thick hollow stems, and a deeper green leafed vegetable with thinner, more hollow stems.
Ong Choy from Melissa’s is hand-selected for excellent quality. Choose heads with full, green leaves and fresh stems. Avoid any brown spots which could indicate decay. Use as soon as possible.
Rinse and shake dry. Drain well. Refrigerate, unwashed in a plastic bag for no more than 2-3 days.
