Bright Lights™ Swiss Chard is a multi-colored Swiss Chard. Chard, a member of the beet family, is actually grown for its leaves and celery-like stalks. The thick, smooth green leaves and brilliantly colored stalks have a milder flavor than the red and green chard varieties. The stalks of the Bright Lights Swiss Chard have a crisp, delicate, celery-like flavor. They vary in color from red, orange, yellow and green. The leaves are often used like spinach and when left raw, impart a beet-like flavor.
Bright Lights Chard can be substituted for spinach in most recipes, while the stems work well in recipes calling for asparagus. Use raw in salads and cook lightly to maintain the dazzling coloring. Bright Lights Swiss Chard adds color, variety and excitement to every day dishes and makes a wonderful conversational piece.
Place in a large bowl of cold water, lift out and drain. Repeat. Trim stems and cut off leaves. If using stems, slice crosswise.
Bright Lights Chard is hand-selected for excellent quality. Look for bunches with fresh, glossy leaves, good color and crisp stalks.
