1 pound turnips
1 tablespoon unsalted butter, optional
2 teaspoons sugar
Water as needed
Wash and peel the turnips. Slice into 1/4 inch slices, approximately 2 1/2 cups.
In a large pot add the turnips with enough water to cover. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat, and simmer 8 - 10 minutes, or until turnip can be pierced with a sharp knife. Firm, not soft.
Drain. Dot with optional butter and sprinkle with sugar.
Turnips may be left, skin on, but have better mouthfeel if peeled or pared.
