Ingredients
-
Butter for greasing baking dish
-
5 cups apples, such as Granny Smith, Pink Lady, Crab Apples or Crimson Golds
-
1/2 cup Water
-
1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
-
3 tablespoons Butter
-
1 cup Brown Sugar
-
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
-
Vanilla Ice Cream
Directions
Place oven rack in center of oven and preheat oven to 325F. Butter a 9-inch square baking dish.
In a large bowl, combine the water and cinnamon. If using small apples such as crimson gold or crab apples, do not peel. Just quarter, remove core, and place in cinnamon water bowl. If using larger apples such as Granny Smith, peel, core, slice into 1/2 inch thick wedges, and place in cinnamon water bowl.
Toss well; pour into prepared baking dish. In another bowl, combine flour, butter, and brown sugar. Work mixture into coarse crumbs that resemble dry rolled oats and sprinkle over apples.
Place baking dish on a cookie sheet to prevent spills. Bake for approximately 45-55 minutes, or until lightly golden.
Serve warm or at room temperature with ice cream.
