Father’s Day and the official first day of summer fall on June 20th this year! Families nationwide will be celebrating with fun and plenty of food. Now that the Covid vaccine has become readily available, more families will be able to celebrate in person!

These two events are the beginning of grilling season, too, and Melissa’s has some great ideas to help with your summer grilling. Check out our Father’s Day recipes, and if you are looking for the perfect gift for Dad, check out our Grilling Basket.

He will love it!

In celebration of Dad, we are offering some great items to make his day even more special! There is so much seasonal fruit, perfect for platters, snacking and for grabbing on the go! From our delicious and juicy Muscato™ Grapes to our yellow flesh watermelon, this Father’s Day will be a hit when it includes produce from Melissa’s!

You can also try grilling some veggies on a skewer, brushed with olive oil and cooked over low heat until tender. Kabobs are really trending right now! Grill some fresh fruit like pineapple (or our latest Pinkglow® Pineapple), tomatoes, and grapes for an interesting skewer combination. Fresh corn on the cob is another popular item to grill. Want to try something different and delicious? Grill a whole eggplant; after the grill is off (charcoal barbecue), place a piece of tin foil on the grill, then a WHOLE eggplant. Do NOT puncture with any holes … this will keep the juices in. Keep the lid on the grill, then turn the eggplant about every 15 minutes until it is completely tender, about an hour total. Once it is done, carefully remove and slice; it will be like butter! Sprinkle a little truffle salt or Melissa’s Hatch Pepper Powder on, and you have a wonderful treat. YUM!

Serve the fresh fruit skewers with burgers, chicken or even veggie dogs! Add the freshly grilled corn, a green salad, and you are all set. For the salad, start with your favorite mix of greens; don’t forget about radicchio, spinach, arugula, watercress and sprouts. Toss the greens together with fresh cucumber slices, steamed artichoke hearts, Melissa’s Peeled and Steamed Baby Beets in balsamic vinaigrette, tomato wedges and sprouts for a beautiful, light salad. Sprinkle with balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper. For a heavier salad, toss with quinoa, couscous or cold pasta like penne, linguine or angel hair.

Ensuring that Melissa’s organic fruits and vegetables are included is a great way to create summer snacks, salads and main dishes you’ll love. Strive to eat five servings of fruit and veggies a day to stay healthy. Our newest fruit variety offerings will make it easy and enjoyable to get your servings in. Bask in all of summer’s glory with the freshest fruits and vegetables available!
