Celebrate May with Fiestas, Mom and Barbecues
Cinco De Mayo
On May 5, 1862, in Puebla, Mexico, about 2,000 Mexican soldiers under the command of General Ignacio de Zaragoza defeated invading French forces of 6,000 men. During this important national holiday, parades and mock battles — using fruits as ammunition — are the highlight of the day. Dances, parties, fireworks, and patriotic foods all celebrate the victory at Puebla. Americans celebrate Cinco de Mayo as if it was one of their personal triumphs, but it is not. For them, it is merely another day of fun, food and festivities.

Mother’s Day
For most people, the most important holiday in May is Mother’s Day. Everyone has a Mother! The second Sunday of May is always this special day to honor and celebrate mothers nationwide. This year Mother’s Day is May 13th. Traditions are to take Mom out to dinner or make something very special for her at home. Cooking at home is the way to go if you don’t want to wait forever to get into her favorite restaurant.
Check out our website for some of her favorite foods and try one of our delicious recipes. Mother’s Day is credited to Anna M. Jarvis. Most historians believe that Mother's Day was first celebrated at a church in West Virginia in 1907. It was a special service arranged by Anna M. Jarvis to honor the memory of her own mother. Seven years later, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed Mother's Day a national holiday. Mothers everywhere are showered with gifts and cards from children (many hand-made) and may be pampered by everyone in the family.
Memorial Day
Memorial Day is Monday, May 28th, 2018. This is an important holiday celebrated in the United States honoring the U.S. men and women who died while serving in the military service.
